The ‘Konsantrematik’ Laundry Sustainability Project
A sustainable-production initiative that set out to cut the chemicals, packaging and energy used in the manufacture, distribution and household use of laundry detergents.
To underline what a new generation of detergents means for a sustainable environment, the Cosmetics and Cleaning Products Industry Association (KTSD) launched the Konsantrematik project with its industry partners in 2008.
The project set out to contribute to sustainable production by reducing the chemicals, packaging material and energy used in the manufacture, distribution and household consumption of laundry detergents, and at the same time to make consumers more aware of their washing habits.
Targets
- Roughly 17% less energy per wash with concentrated products
- Up to 18% lower carbon emissions
Results
- Powder product use fell by 28%
- 95% of consumers moved to concentrated detergents
- The project reached its 33% savings target
